Some 19 per cent of women will be making themselves look glamorous for this forthcoming New Year's Eve by buying new clothes, new research reveals.
Additionally, some 17 per cent will be sporting a new hairdo for the occasion, according to Yorkshire Bank.
In contrast, the research shows that men are less enthusiastic than women when it comes to getting in the party mood, with 33 per cent of the male population calling the evening overrated or disappointing.
Gary Lumby, Yorkshire Bank's head of retail, commented: "It’s nice to make an effort when you're celebrating but it might be that all the effort women are going to this New Year's Eve could be for nothing if the blokes aren't up for the party."
The findings also highlight a desire for people to get drunk on New Year's Eve, with the bank suggesting that 13 per cent of the nation plans to wake up on January 1st 2007 with a hangover.
According to UK call centre chiefs, the number of emergency 999 calls is expected to increase threefold on New Year's Eve.
