A new study has found Brits would like another bank holiday before stepping into the Christmas party season. The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) suggests Prime Minister Gordon Brown should set another bank holiday for November 12th this year. The organisation believes people need another holiday before the Christmas party and New Year season.
Monday, August 27th was the last bank holiday of the year and many would like a short break again before 2008.
Some even suggest the holiday should be more than just a time to get ready for an upcoming Christmas party and holiday rush.
Kate Stanley, IPPR director of research says “We need a day when people ‘give something back’ to their communities and celebrate the diversity and pluralism of modern Britain. Awarding civic honors on a single national day would be a national thank you for the many thousands of citizens who go out of their way to help others.”
Meantime, two UK air carriers, Ryanair and Easy Jet, reported higher than normal numbers over the August bank holiday. Ryanair reports more than a million customers used the carrier over the long weekend.
The airlines suggest another bank holiday would not only be good for business but give Brits a much needed chance to escape dreary weather before the chaotic Christmas party season.
