It looks like a supermarket giant is going to save Southend’s annual Christmas party!
After hearing that there was a budget shortfall for the town’s Christmas spectacular and festive fun and carol day this year, Tesco stumped up half the cash for the event. The local newspaper put out a plea to find some of the £5,000 shortfall from local businesses. It wasn’t long until the local Tesco store pledged £2,500 towards the day.
Tesco spokesperson, Louise Gosling, stated, "We are delighted to be able to help fund the Christmas celebrations in Southend. The Town Centre Partnership has worked hard to make this happen so when they asked us to get involved we were more than happy to help out."
The locals are expected to welcome the news of the extra funding from Tesco as the festive fun day is a popular event each year with thousands of people flocking in to enjoy the Christmas party.
The Town Centre Partnership’s chairman, Dawn Jenkins said the town was very grateful to Tesco for helping to save Christmas. She added, "We are halfway there now, and I feel hopeful, but we still need to find another £2,500 so if any business wants to get involved please do get in touch."
