Christmas party hosts may have to hand deliver invitations this year, in light of the series of postal strikes throughout the UK. With uncertainty in the time frame of delivery, Christmas party invitations and Christmas cards should be sent out early.
Communications Workers Union regional secretary Laurence Houston warned that the on-time delivery of Christmas post could be hampered: "We have not planned that far out and we are absolutely hoping that Government intervention will force the company to reach a resolution," he explained. "If not, we are in a situation where Royal Mail is planning to axe around 40,000 jobs. We can't allow this to happen."
Last week workers began the huge task of sorting through the backlog of mail. If measures are not taken by both the Union and Royal Mail the backlog could soon include Christmas party invitations, cards and presents. The employees walked off the job to dispute low wages and benefits.
A spokesman from Royal Mail said talks between the two parties were ongoing and that the organisation hoped some agreement could be reached before the next scheduled round of industrial action was set to begin. The Royal Mail recommends sending post early this year to make sure it arrives in time for the Christmas party and holiday season.
