One of the stars of TV soap Coronation Street is to be arrested for drink-driving in a storyline aimed at warning viewers of the perils of driving home from Christmas parties.
Factory boss Carla Connor, who is played by Alison King, will feature in the drink-driving storyline in the run up to the festive season.
Carla's arrest comes after she leaves the opening of Nick Tilsley's (played by Ben Price) new bar. She calls alcoholic Peter Barlow (played by Chris Gascoyne) to pick her up from the police station and he arrives drink aswell.
He collapses on the floor of the police station and Carla storms out. She is then taken to court and disqualified from driving.
Carla then realises how important her driving licence is for her work and breaks down. The drink-driving storyline has been created in order to send a message to motorists ahead of the Christmas party season.
A Coronation Street spokesperson said, “Last year we used Peter Barlow and his own problems as a warning about drink-driving and this year we're using Carla.
“If we manage to stop even a handful of people from being tempted then we'll have done our job,” added the spokesperson.
