Secretaries Bring The Festive Cheer
18/09/2006

Secretaries and PAs are the most likely to be given total responsibility for the office Christmas party than other job titles in the office and the most likely to enjoy it too, according to research by party providers, West End Events. As well as being responsible for organising the festive bash, secretaries/PAs are also the main decision makers on the type and location of the event; more so than their bosses.

The survey also showed that this group of workers know how to have a good time. Over 75% chose a traditional ‘Christmassy’ disco as their preferred type of entertainment; the average number of alcoholic drinks consumed during the evening was six and 60% admitted to having had a hangover the next morning.

Of the 300 secretaries/PAs surveyed, 60% said they don’t mind organising the Christmas party, 30% loved the role and 10% loathed doing it. Only 20% said they were given help by another colleague, with 80% having to organise the event whilst managing their usual workload.

The most enjoyable aspects of organising the Christmas party were cited as visiting venues and choosing menus and the most stressful was making sure everyone has a good time. The majority of respondents said the key to a successful event was early planning.
