After a night out on the town celebrating the New Year with friends and family the best way to continue the merriment in a more subdued manner is by watching the annual London New Year’s Day Parade.
Celebrating its 22nd anniversary on the 1st of January 2008 the London New Year’s Day Parade is a fantastic event for all the family. Talent from 20 different countries will be involved in the parade. Marching bands, dance troupes and thousands of other entertaining participants will walk through London to ring in the New Year. Many of these participants are from the London Boroughs.
The parade will start at 12pm on the 1st of January 2008 in Parliament Square. From there it will go through Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, Pall Mall, Regent Street, Piccadilly Circus and will finish at approximately 3pm at Berkeley Street in Piccadilly.
Around half a million people are expected to be in the city to watch the parade, so you will need to get in early to get a good view.
If after that all night New Year’s Eve party you can’t bear to go out the door but still want to see the parade then turn on your television. The London New Year’s Day parade will be broadcast around the world by major broadcasters such as the BBC and SKY. In 2006 over 200 million watch the London New Year’s Day Parade with over 500 stations in five continents broadcasting the event. More are expected to be broadcasting it in 2008.
The London New Year’s Day Parade is a wonderful way to see in the New Year but it also raises millions of pounds for local London charities, which will go to making someone else’s New Year a little more prosperous.
