Retailer announces pre-Christmas profits
06/10/2006

The run-up to Christmas has led to department store John Lewis announcing record revenues, as Londoners get prepared for the party season.

Sales online are beating the department store's John Lewis flagship store in Oxford Street, central London, reports Reuters.

Peter Jones, one of the retail group's high-street stores, reported the highest turnover offline, with its London outlets reporting turnover eight weeks ahead of the corresponding period in 2005.

Those planning office Christmas parties for December could find a number of fancy dress and festive-orientated goods at John Lewis stores across the capital.

However, it was electrical goods and other technology that has pushed profits up, the retailer explained.

"Electricals and home technology gave another high-powered performance with strong demand for large and small electricals, vision and fitted kitchens," John Lewis said in a statement.

Consumers planning festive celebrations also have a selection of more than 1,000 wines to choose from via John Lewis' website.
