London’s most up-market party venues have been hosting a string of events for London Fashion Week, with no tightening of the purse strings to be seen.
The 25th annual fashion show extravaganza showed no sign of the cost cutting that has been going on elsewhere, with designers and retailers throwing parties all around the city, to celebrate arguable one of the most frivolous industries.
It seems that the party-goers were happily ignoring the recession for the four days of the event, and glamming it up at venues such as the Met Bar and Café de Paris. Fashion label PPQ said its Café de Paris party will be the largest its ever held, as the venue is twice as big as ones it’s used before.
Although the events organizers aren’t showing signs of cutting corners, the catwalk shows themselves were significantly smaller and more understated affairs this years, with many replacing models with mannequins and opting for smaller venues to host their shows.
London Mayor, Boris Johnson, was hoping to attract buyers to the city with £40,000 of investment towards accommodation and travel.
