Pub staff throw Christmas party for African visitors
August 19, 2009

A pub in Hartlepool has decided to throw a Christmas party in August for a group of African visitors who are staying at the pub.

The visitors from Ethiopia have come to the UK on an exchange programme and the staff at the Nursery Inn thought it would be fun to show them what a British Christmas Party was like – despite it being the height of summer!

The pub’s landlady, Katy Bell. Says, “I can't believe we are doing it. It's a bit mad. But I thought wouldn't it be lovely to do Christmas for them.” The party is set to come complete with crackers, carols, Christmas trees and even Santa is set to make an appearance.

The pub is encouraging its African visitors to demonstrate some Ethiopian traditions at the party and a coffee ceremony will take place along with some cultural dancing from Africa, performed by the Ethiopian group.

The party will mark the end of the stay in the UK for the African visitors and the Nursery Inn staff hopes the party will send them off with a bang!
