The nation should be partying like they did in medieval times, it has been suggested.
Christmas was a festival celebrated for 12 days in those times, a move the UK should be echoing today, according to Tom Hodginson's new book, which is reported in the Independent.
No-one was allowed to work during the period, providing time for nearly two weeks of Christmas party celebrations, the book dubbed How To Be Free states.
The publication also indicates that although most individuals celebrate the festive season today, through office Christmas parties for example, they do not put aside the same amount of time as their ancestors.
In addition, May Day was set aside for having sex and there were a number of holidays every month, the Independent informs.
Furthermore, it is suggested that those living in medieval times were less likely to be in debt and more environmentally friendly.
Tom Hodginson is also the author of the Idler and How To Be Idle.
