Shyness is not an uncommon problem among Britons. Britons feel shy at some point during their lives but it is becoming increasingly problematic when the New Year’s Eve parties roll around.
An amazing 93 percent recently admitted in the Pringles Gourmet Crisps party habits survey that shyness was hampering their socialising. A further 30% ruled out talking to someone they don’t know at a party – even if introduced by a friend.
In order to overcome this social shyness and not be the wallflower in the corner you need to keep a few things in mind. Confidence is key, especially with what you are wearing. Be comfortable and assured that you look good and you will feel good too. “The place for tinsel is on the tree not around your boobs. People dress like they are on a hen night – aim for sleek and sexy instead,” says Nick Ede, lifestyle expert.
When you first enter the New Year’s Eve party confidence is also crucial. But, keep it subtle. Smile, hold your head high and keep your body language relaxed. “Be yourself. That’s the most important thing,” says Mandy Mayhew. Mayhew is an expert at befriending strangers after spending years working as an Avon lady.
“Head to the bar, if you don’t see anyone you know,” says Mayhew. “Break the ice with a smile and a compliment. Strike a balance between being bold and confident and keeping the talk small to show you are interested.”
If the party bore corners you excuse yourself to retouch your makeup and when you return try someone else. With confidence and practice your next New Year’s office party or social gathering will be a breeze.
