Office Christmas party prompts giant weight loss

An office worker from Lanarkshire missed her Christmas party after feeling 'too fat and frumpy' to attend – prompting a weight loss of epic proportions.

Civil servant Laura Glencross, 23, spent the weekend in tears after failing to find an outfit for her work Christmas party that fit her size 18 frame.

After missing the festive celebrations, Miss Glencross decided to change her unhealthy lifestyle. Following that momentous decision, she joined Scottish Slimmers in January 2009 is now down to a size eight after dropping five stone and five dress sizes.

She has gone from a curvy 14st 1lb to a slim 9st 1lb by working out in the gym every morning.

She has now been picked as a semi-finalist for Scottish Slimmers' Young slimmer category as a result of her achievement.

She said, "Being nominated for an award is amazing - I've gone through so much with Scottish Slimmers and even cried when I reached my target weight in June.

"I can't believe the change I've seen in myself over the last 18 months - I've grown in confidence but shrunk in size.

"I'm hoping to apply for a place on a sports coaching course as a fitness instructor later this year. Getting fit and healthy has changed my life and now I want to show others that anything is possible,” she added.
