A local newspaper is aiming to help light up Croydon over the Christmas period.
While many of the town's offices will be planning their annual Christmas party, the Croydon Advertiser is starting an appeal to install festive lights.
The publication hopes to change the recent trend, which has seen Croydon remain in the dark during the lead-up to Christmas due to lack of money, the newspaper reports.
The Croydon Advertiser is to put some of the money it raised from its Whitgift Little Wonders baby competition.
Town centre manager Ros Morgan told the newspaper: "We should not underestimate the importance of creating an attractive and welcoming environment in the town centre, particularly during the festive period.
She added that the town centre will have the spirit of Christmas this year, brought to the area by a "fabulous array of festive events, decorations and lighting".
According to Croydon Online, the town of Croydon is one of the UK's largest commercial centres and contains a wealth of skilled staff, as well as a variety of businesses.
