New Year's Eve partygoers warned of bogus cabs

 New Year's Eve revellers are being warned to "play it safe" on December 31st 2006 and make sure the taxi they choose is a legitimate one.
Taxiwise, the national campaign for promoting the safe use of taxis, is calling on all those who will be using taxis before and after the new year celebrations to check the licence plate on the outside of the cab. Lisa Snowdon, TV presenter and former girlfriend of Hollywood girlfriend of George Clooney, is also backing the campaign. "It can be all too easy for people to go out for a Christmas [or new year] party, have a couple more drinks than they might normally and then simply get into the first vehicle that pulls up offering to take them home," she said. Hailing down a London-style black cab is the safest way to ensure individuals are getting into an authentic taxi, she added. Londoners will be treated to free bus and train rides after midnight on December 31st 2006 until 04:30 GMT on January 1st 2007.  Click here for more on London's best events and Christmas parties.
