Those who suffer from shyness should build up their confidence in preparation for New Year's Eve parties by getting used to celebrating slowly, it has been advised.
Shy individuals should go to a variety of parties in the weeks leading up to "the big one" and leave while they are still having fun in order to ensure they begin to associate celebrations with having a good time, according to Leil Lowndes, speaking to the Hartford Courant.
In one of her books, Goodbye to Shy, Ms Lowndes calls this process the "graduated exposure therapy".
On the topic of presentation and attitude at parties, Ms Lowndes offers further advice.
"Force yourself into good posture. If your body is in a confident position, your mind will follow," Ms Lowndes writes.
"If your body is slouching or scrunching up, your mind feels you are not as confident. I say, fake it [until] you make it."
She also states that shy people should wear "look at me clothes" and avoid dull attire to generate an atmosphere of excitement.
Employers were also issued party advice this month; the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service suggested that they need to take responsibility for their staff at office festive parties.
