As the noise levels increase during the New Year's Eve celebrations this month, so too could partygoers' energy bills, new research reveals.
The new year will see energy provider Scottish and Southern Energy increase prices by over 12 per cent, moneysupermarket.com reports.
Consequently, consumers will start 2007 with a headache for two reasons – alcohol and rising energy bills, the price comparison site states.
Furthermore, eight days into the new year, British Gas will be lifting the "price freeze" on its Click Energy online tariff, which will reportedly make it the most expensive internet tariff around.
"Scottish and Southern raised its prices twice in 2006 and when announcing a third hike in September pledged not to put prices up before 2007," said Paul Schofield, head of utilities at moneysupermarket.com.
"The company has taken this statement too literally by introducing the hikes on New Year's Day."
It was announced this week that any revellers attending the London New Year's Day Parade will have access to free parking across a number of areas in the capital.
