Many Britons plan to make learning a new language their new year's resolution, the latest research reveals.
Some 23 per cent of people want to learn how to speak French, while 20 per cent of Britons want to be able to get by in Spanish, according to language software provider Rosetta Stone.
Chinese is also on the list of top languages to learn in 2007, the company indicates.
Around 300 individuals were questioned as part of the survey on new year's resolutions in the UK.
Michael Lefante, spokesperson for Rosetta Stone, remarked: "More people are realising the many benefits that come with being able to speak a second language.
"In addition to improving communication, learning a language can increase mental agility, develop problem-solving skills and enhance cultural understanding."
He added that learning a language in 2007 is a new year's resolution worth making.
Other popular New Year's Eve resolutions include dieting, joining a gym and giving up smoking, the software firm suggests.
Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and English are three of the most widely spoken languages in the world.
