Yobs in the town of Sandy in Bedfordshire are to enjoy one last riotous New Year’s Eve before local residents meet to discuss the problem.
The meeting, which was originally scheduled for last Saturday, has been postponed until the New Year, much to the disappointment of several residents of the Bedfordshire town who were hoping for a trouble-free New Year’s Eve.
The anti-social behaviour of a number of young people in Sandy has long been considered a problem. The original meeting had been called following a year-long investigation by local beat manager Pc Lee Prutton into the behaviour of groups of young people who gather in an area known locally as ‘The Mushroom’.
Police have received a constant stream of complaints from residents about gangs of youths, sometimes more than 20 in number, who gathered every night on the play site opposite their homes.
PC Prutton was to have chaired the meeting at Quince Court, Sandy and representatives from Sandy Town Council, Bedfordshire Town Council and Mid Beds District Council were expected to attend.
The meeting is now expected to take place early in the New Year at Sandy Village Hall, and a number of residents are likely to be upset that New Year’s Eve 2007 will not be the peaceful occasion they had hoped for.
