London councils could take note of a new alcohol-related anti-social behaviour initiative, set to be rolled out in Colchester this Christmas.
A new Designated Public Places Order would enable local police to confiscate alcohol from adults who are causing trouble in a particular zone of the town, reports the East Anglian Daily Times (EADT).
If the order is ratified by the whole council, it could be in place in time for the traditional Christmas party season which begins on December 1st.
Margaret Kimberley, Colchester Borough Council's portfolio holder for neighbourhoods, told EADT: "Visitors, residents and businesses of Colchester should be able to enjoy the benefits of our vibrant town centre without having to put up with the disorder caused by the behaviour of people who are drunk and acting in an anti-social way."
She added that the council was working with the police and other organisations to try and combat the problem.
Earlier this week, London partygoers were advised by the Croydon Guardian to watch how much they drink this Christmas.
