A new book offering nine tips on avoiding office Christmas party disasters cites attendance at work events as a top priority.
NewRules@Work: 79 Etiquette Tips, Tools and Techniques to Get Ahead and Stay Ahead, written by business etiquette expert Barbara Pachter, also details a number of situations where office parties have gone wrong.
Staying sober and mingling are two of the main pieces of advice offered by the author, as parties present an opportunity for employees to meet new people and promote themselves in a positive manner.
Ms Pachter says that people can do and say a variety of inappropriate things at holiday parties.
"Your behaviour always matters. Just because you are out of the office [it] doesn't mean that your behaviour doesn't count," she states.
The author also recommends that office workers view the holiday party as they would any other business event.
Being courteous and dressing sensibly are two further ways in which to behave at the office Christmas party, Ms Pachter concludes.
Last week, London office worker Josephine Chi won her claim of sexual harassment against her boss Anthony Baker, who she claims groped her at an office party.
