New book offers New Year's Eve party tips

 Spouses heading to their partner's office parties this New Year's Eve should learn how to mingle, a new book suggests.
Being able to conduct small talk is a difficult task for some, but can be achieved by following a few rules, The Art of Mingling by Jeanne Martinet reveals. The publication, which has just been released under the St Martin's Griffin label, focuses on encouraging shy types to confront the party season without fear, reports detnews. People worried about talking to fellow guests should practice their social interaction skills on timid and nerdy looking groups. This builds confidence, the book indicates. Additionally, conversations should not begin with questions about what people do for a living, as the answers could be dull or stoke up sensitive issues, the author writes. Tips are also offered on making the party environment more comfortable for guests – these include moving furniture closer together and filling rooms with people.
