More UK Families Spend Christmas Abroad
16/08/2007

More families are choosing the Christmas party season to go on holiday this year, according to a new study.

Mothercare and Mother and Baby Magazine conducted a survey that concluded 75 percent of mothers believe going to a UK location for a holiday during the Christmas party season is too expensive. Seventy percent of those surveyed think they can get a better value if they take their family to an overseas location for an extended Christmas vacation.

This trend has resorts and accommodation abroad aiming their marketing strategy at UK families who are interested in a Christmas party season get-away.

Family holiday advisor Lucy Ace says: “In my experience with children a warm, sandy beach will keep them entertained for hours. Mix that with the child friendly culture of Italy or Spain and you have a winning formula.” She adds, “Alternatively at Christmas and New Years places like the Seychelles are fabulous especially as jet lag is kept to a minimum.”

Many travel agencies and tour operators are offering help in planning an overseas holiday during the Christmas party season. The challenge for families will be to find a good deal, as Christmas is traditionally not a cheap time to go on holiday - abroad or not. For those who can wait, the New Year tends to offer more economic travel deals.
