While the men of the United Kingdom run and hide the Mamma Mia phenomenon rolls on with an award picked up this week at the National Film Awards. Leading lady Meryl Streep received the prize for Best Actress.
It's hard to believe that someone of Ms. Streep's calibre would dare to star in a low budget musical based on the songs of
Abba but it seems to have done no harm to her career at all; instead bringing her to the attention of an entirely new and younger audience.
Stars such as Colin Firth and former
James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, also starred alongside Streep in this year's surprise movie hit and indeed the experience has not harmed any of their careers one bit.
At the moment plans are afoot - and indeed in some cinemas it is already happening - to have special sing-a-long showings of the movie at which the
Abba adoring audience members (both male and female) can belt out their favourite
Abba tunes along with their on-screen heroes in what promises to be a series of popcorn and pick-and-mix fuelled cinema outings.
These sing-a-longs promise not to be for the faint of heart so if horror movies aren't your thing it's best to let the wife go on her own or with friends.
