Londoners urged to donate money during party season
11/10/2006

Christmas partygoers in London are being urged to think about donating money to children from war-torn and poverty-stricken countries this coming festive season.

While the UK's capital begins to turn its attention to Christmas, Operation Christmas Child is aiming to help needy children in Africa and eastern Europe, reports the Bromley Times.

The charity project is calling on Bromley residents to continue their "tremendous" record in providing gift-filled shoebox contributions over the last few years.

Over one million children received boxes last year and 2,000 of them came from the people of Bromley.

Gordon McCann, the appeal's regional manager, said: "We are very proud of the tremendous level of contribution that Bromley communities have made over the last few years and we need to keep this great effort going because, sadly, there are many places where children are suffering from natural disasters, war and poverty."

He added that it cannot be emphasised enough what a Christmas shoebox full of gifts brings to children who have lost their families.

Regions all over the UK will be participating in similar projects.
