An exhibition at City Hall of photographs taken of children enjoying parties in the streets of London, has been extended until 24 August.
The extension gives people an extra week to view the giant colour prints by renowned photographer, Ben Jones.
The exhibition showcases the results of London Play’s Street Play project, which closes 100 streets to traffic for a day, turning them into party venues for children who are free to play outside their homes.
The Big Lottery Fund’s London representative, Debbie Pippard says, "streets are transformed from rat-runs to playgrounds with imaginative uses being made of everyday items such as cardboard boxes, while new toys are not left out. I highly recommend a visit to this exhibition - check out the tug of war!"
Any area in London can request that a street is closed for a day to throw a street party under the scheme. London Play’s Catherine Togut says the idea appeals to a diverse range of Londoners, "they have been very popular and we have had a broad spectrum of street parties, some on estates and adventure playgrounds, not just old Victorian streets."
