A lollipop lady who organised a traditional Christmas party for the children in her village has been nominated for a community award.
43-year-old Linda Reed works as a lollipop lady for Lavant Primary School in West Sussex. Last year, she applied for, and was granted, a loan from Lavant’s parish council to organise a Christmas party for local children. The party included traditional Christmas games and presents.
Mrs. Reed told the West Sussex Gazette: "I was talking to some of the mums about the Christmas parties we used to go to when we were young and I said 'why don't we do that?”
"I said 'leave it to me' and we ended up with 46 children coming, and they had a wonderful time."
Linda was nominated for the Observer community awards as Overall Best Community Person by her son Andy, who said: "Our mum will stand up and help anybody if she possibly can and she has worked closely with the local community support officer, Jason Lemm. She must be one of the happiest lollipop ladies there is – loads of people wave to her."
