Legendary
James Bond star Sean Connery has the worst film accent ever, according to a new list which also features Meryl Streep, star of the big-screen version of
Abba musical Mamma Mia!
A poll by Empire magazine singles out the Scottish thespian for his vocal performance in gangster movie The Untouchables in particular, for which the one-time
James Bond adopted an Irish-American brogue tinged with his usual Edinburgh tones.
"Whether he's a Russian sub captain (The Hunt for Red October) or even an English king (First Knight, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), always that baritone Highland burr remains," quips the magazine.
Connery, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in The Untouchables, starred in seven
James Bond films between 1962 and 1983.
Mamma Mia! star Meryl Streep features at number ten in Empire's list, for her performance as a Danish woman in 1985 film Out of Africa.
The Oscar winner puts her vocal chords to alternative use in Mamma Mia! in which she can be heard singing a variety of
Abba classics including Dancing Queen and The Winner Takes it All.
