Retailers are gearing up for the Christmas shopping season and Christmas parties by revamping their online sales. Last Christmas British consumers spent £7.66 online between October 16th and December 24th and the numbers are expected to go up this year. British trade association The Interactive Media in Retail Group estimates customers to come close to doubling the figure in 2007.
Because of the projections, high street designer retailer House of Fraser is launching an online shop next month. Guests will be able to shop for Christmas party favours and gifts online.
The company is joining designers such as Next in selling and engaging in Internet Marketing for gifts and Christmas party hostess items. Next reported disappointing sales at its high-street stores last Christmas but online sales were up.
In 2006, sales reached nearly £1 billion a week during each of the first three weeks in December. Consumers placed 200 million orders for Christmas party favours and gifts in the 10 weeks before Christmas.
House of Fraser’s online store is found at www.houseoffraser.co.uk. Online shoppers can find clothes, must-have accessories from the hottest brands as well as products for the home and gifts for family members.
