Get fit in time for the office party
11/09/2006

Office Christmas partygoers this year are being encouraged to think of that "little black dress" they plan to wear to motivate them into an exercise regime starting now.

Fitness expert for the Western Mail in Wales, Mary Sheppard, has suggested that people plan lighter activities such as walking to work or swimming early in the day, rather then setting unrealistic exercise plans they are unlikely to keep when the days start to draw in.

Ms Sheppard advised Western Mail readers: "Our bodies were designed to conserve energy during the winter and, though we humans don't hibernate, we are affected by the climate and lack of daylight.

"However, it is important to remember how invigorated you feel after you've come back from a brisk walk in the country."

The fitness guru added that it is important for Brits to think about how they would like to look and feel at Christmas, especially for the office party season.
