Getting ready for any party at any time of the year is stressful when you are not prepared. It is even more stressful when it is your yearly New Year’s Eve party. Preparation is key if you wish to enjoy the festive season without over doing it.
Ensure your health is in prime condition before the onslaught of the festive season by planning ahead. “Taking a good multi-vitamin with Vitamin B and magnesium supplements to lessen the effects of hangovers,” says Debbie Cotton, naturopath and lecturer at the College of Naturopathic Medicine. “When you drink a lot of alcohol it will wash out the water-soluble vitamins and minerals from your body”.
Also, ensure that you eat the right food before your New Year’s Eve party. It isn’t about having a full stomach, as we all know drinking on an empty stomach is a big no-no, it is about eating a meal that contains good fats and proteins that release energy slowly. You need the slow release energy foods in your stomach to counteract the drastic effect alcohol has on your blood sugar levels.
“A perfect slow release meal would be a chicken and avocado sandwich on wholegrain bread,” says Cotton.
