Environmentalist group Friends of the Earth (FOE) suggests that people can get fit in the new year and cut car pollution at the same time.
Eating more healthily and buying organic products is another new year's resolution consumers should make, the organisation states.
FOE also indicates other resolutions consumers can make as 2006 ends and 2007 begins including reducing aviation pollution and recycling waste products.
It is also suggested that individuals who grow their own fruit can combine a number of new year's resolutions in one.
"Get fit, save money and grow something new from seed," FOE states.
"Growing your own fruit, vegetables and plants in the garden is proven to help reduce stress. Digging deep is good exercise and therapeutic at the same time."
Also, composting minimises landfill waste and recycles it back into the earth, the group adds.
Financial website unbiased.co.uk reported earlier this year that organising finances was one of the most popular new year's resolutions in the UK.
