Families Head to the Pub this Christmas
06/12/2007

A report out by Deloitte & Touche LLP says Brits will spend more time eating and drinking in local pubs this Christmas party and holiday season.

The information, highlighted by Bloomberg reports: “The average budget has risen to 143 pounds per person from 121 pounds last year. In 2006 spending fell 16 percent from the previous year, the survey shows. Total spending will climb by 1 billion pounds to 6.8 billion pounds this year, Deloitte said.”

Deloitte surveyed more than 1,000 adults between Aug. 31 and Sept. 2 and repeated questions on spending plans between Nov. 2 and Nov. 4.

Many offices and families are also planning to host their annual Christmas party in a pub. It seems more Christmas party hosts and hostesses wish to leave the cooking and washing up to the professionals.

“Despite some economic challenges, people expect to continue to eat out because they want to and because they're busy”, Glyn Bunting, a partner in Deloitte's hospitality and leisure department, said in the statement.
Men plan to spend £178 each on average, and women have budgeted £109, the survey shows.
