A shot of tequila is as fattening as a doughnut, according to health promotion organisation The Wales Centre for Health (WCH).
This is the warning being issued to New Year's Eve and other partygoers this coming festive season, reports the Western Mail.
Other warnings offered to partygoers by the WCH as part of its Christmas campaign on the effects of alcohol include not drinking or eating too much.
Su Mably, public health specialist at the WCH, remarked: "Binge drinking is on the increase, especially in women in their 20s.
"Alcohol is laden with calories - meaning the more you drink the more likely you are to gain weight. A small glass of wine contains the same number of calories as a packet of crisps."
She added that this is worth remembering when making late night takeaway orders after a few alcoholic drinks.
Charity Alcohol Concern warns this year's partygoers that too much drink can cause people to take risks they would not usually take.
