Deck the Halls with Style
29/11/2007

Before the guests arrive make sure this year’s Christmas party is decorated with the latest styles. Most hostesses will add a touch of last year’s Christmas party decorations and perhaps add something new. Professional decorators suggest going for something that will be memorable for your guests.

A trend now is to turn a Christmas tree upside down and hang it from a hook in the ceiling. Then add the decorations, which will actually hang down from the tree. London retailer John Lewis is showing this decorating technique in stores and consumers can buy an upside-down tree for a Christmas party that is already decorated.

For hostesses planning to try an up-side down tree for this year’s Christmas party, be sure to use an artificial tree that is light weight and small. The hook should be screwed into a load bearing beam and not into plasterboard.

Juliet Bawden writes for London publication Time and Leisure and says: “One option is to buy a smaller real tree in a pot, that has not been cut off at its roots, and then plant it in the garden after Christmas. If you are buying a real tree and have to handle it, I have found the best option is to wear long sleeves and padded gloves, such as ski gloves or workman’s gloves.”
