Christmas partygoers will spend at least £202 on enjoying themselves this December, new research reveals.
Furthermore, those who attend Christmas parties on a regular basis will spend £12,250 over the course of their lifetime, according to insurance firm Cornhill Direct.
The insurer also states that the average Briton spent a total sum of £2,200 during the festive period last year.
Food, drink and gift purchases during the party season mean that the average 18-year-old is likely to invest over £130,000 on Christmas over their lifetime, the insurer states.
Mark Bishop, spokesman for Cornhill Direct, said: "Christmas is a time to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family, but the threat of burglary can't be ignored and householders must be more security conscious than normal.
"Our policy automatically increases the sum insured by ten per cent during the Christmas period to cater for the Christmas spend."
A Belfast City Council-led initiative called Get Home Safe has been launched in Northern Ireland in order to ensure people take care when leaving their Christmas parties this year.
