A study of 50,000 professional women across 25 different countries has revealed the biggest Christmas party mistakes they have made.
Leading the way in the WorldWIT study of the regrets of its members was drinking too much – with 75 per cent of those asked stating that they wished they hadn't drunk more than two beverages.
Around half of those polled said they regret forgetting a colleague's name, although hopefully not while enjoying a romantic liaison with them, which has occurred to one in five women at an office party.
Of those that did fall for a colleague at a party, 27 per cent pretended it never happened, while 13 per cent are still with that person today.
Liz Ryan, WorldWIT's chief executive, advises: "The first, and hardest, part of bouncing back from a workplace misstep is to apologise to the affected parties.
"That might be the boss you insulted, the workmate you flirted with, or the hapless guest whose coat you spilled your drink on (or worse)."
Some 60 per cent of those canvassed said their opinion of a co-worker changed after seeing them at the office party.
