Office Christmas party organisers need to cater for people of all ages, a Cheshire law firm has warned.
When planning the party, venues and activities need to be suitable for both young and old people, according to Jonathan Whittaker, employment partner at SAS Daniels, reports the Western Mail.
Mr Whittaker remarked: "An office party that leans towards a late-night clubbing scenario could offend older members of the staff, but a quieter afternoon meal in a restaurant could upset the younger members of the team."
He added that if party organisers are not careful, the festivities could push older workers over the edge, if they are subjected to regular age-related pranks.
Consequently, this could lead to employees "making an age discriminatory-based claim against their employers", Mr Whittaker concluded.
At the beginning of October, the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 came into force, which gives older employees the choice of working past retirement age.
