The long days of summer are slowly ending and stores across the UK and overseas are taking advantage of the change in season. Marketing and advertisements for products for the Christmas party and holiday season are in full swing.
Costco, a Canadian retailer, has already lined shelves with items such as Christmas angels and artificial Christmas trees. This jump in early sales has challenged other stores across the world to bring out the Christmas party items.
Most retailers wait until mid-October to bring out Christmas party and holiday decorations. Costco got a three-month jump, however, thus blurring the line between traditional summer products and the more seasonal items of Christmas.
"It's never been unusual in our stores to have snowsuits in July and to have Christmas decorations out in August," said Ron Damiani, Costco's vice-president of corporate affairs.
Retail consultant John Winter said the introduction of Christmas party and holiday products in the summer months may be a sign of the times.
"They seem to be getting it in earlier and earlier. It used to be that you would get Halloween over with and then the Christmas stuff would appear," said Mr. Winter.
