Christmas Lights Sponsored by Disney
08/10/2007

For the first time ever entertainment giant Disney will sponsor the Oxford Street Christmas lights. The lights are put up along Oxford Street in the run-up to the Christmas party season. Costing one million pounds, the lights will illuminate the mile long stretch of one of London’s most famous shopping districts.

The annual display is popular with tourists and shoppers alike, and organisers feel it puts people in the Christmas spirit and gets them ready to buy gifts.

The lights will be switched on around the same time of Disney’s launch of its new film Enchanted. Christmas party shoppers can see the lights beginning Wednesday November 7th. Sponsors will switch the lights on at 6:17pm. Banners advertising the film will also run across Oxford Street at Marble Arch and Tottenham Court Road.

Disney has not as yet named the individual who is to switch on the Oxford Street lights for the Christmas party and holiday season. Organisers are hoping someone from the cast of Enchanted can be on hand for the event. Previous celebrities who have helped turn on the lights for the Christmas party season include the Spice Girls.
