Children are looking forward to the Christmas season as they claim that October half-term is "the most boring holiday".
Almost half of respondents to the survey, run by Kinder chocolate company, said that it is too cold or too wet to go out, while a quarter complained that Christmas is too far away.
Some 59 per cent of children said they will spend their time playing on the computer and 40 per cent admitting arguing with their siblings would be the main activity.
Many parents said that the expense of entertaining their children would prevent them from taking them out, saving their money for the Christmas holidays instead.
Pat Spungin, a child psychologist, told the Guardian: "This time of year is tough for families to get out and about with the change in weather, shorter days and counting the pennies for Christmas.
"But a fun day out doesn't have to cost a fortune - what's important is to keep interacting."
Duncan Fisher, the father of two children, told the Western Mail that he and his partner would be working flexibly to spend time with their children, although he sees the half term as a "hiatus" between the summer holidays and Christmas.
