'Cheaper but considered Christmas gifts required'
04/12/2006

Consumers are not concerned about receiving large and expensive presents from their loved ones this Christmas party season, according to Yorkshire Building Society (YBS).

Some 54 per cent of those in relationships would rather receive a considered gift that is less expensive, the building society's research reveals.

Furthermore, 59 per cent of women would like to date a man who gives small and thoughtful gifts, the findings show. Those looking for a Christmas party date could consider these results.

Tanya Jackson, media relations manager at YBS, remarked: "There is enormous pressure to buy bigger and better gifts each Christmas but it is better to save your money and get a smaller and less expensive present that will really be appreciated."

She added that the research highlights that people "would rather have something that shows a little more thought and consideration" from their loved ones.

A recent study from YBS indicated that women prefer men that have a positive attitude towards savings, rather than those who like to splash the cash.
