A local Kidderminster charity will be celebrating this week after receiving funds for its annual Christmas party.
The money has been raised by the Kidderminster Carnival, which itself has an uncertain future. Despite the fears that the carnival might not go ahead, it was a roaring success and managed to raise an impressive £2,000 for local charities, not least the Kidderminster Club for the Blind's Christmas party.
The future of the carnival has been put under threat as members of the current organising committee are preparing to retire and replacements have not yet been found. However, after hearing of the event's success - not just as a party for locals, but for charities in the region, which received up to £1,500 to help pay for their own events and parties - a new organising committee is bound to emerge.
A further incentive is that the carnival accounts have reportedly been left in a “healthy” position after this latest successful event.
A final decision on the future of the carnival is to be made at its annual general meeting, which is to take place on 20 October 2010.
