Campaign aims to make partygoers think
18/09/2006

The Churches' Advertising Network (Can) has announced a new campaign in time for the Christmas party season.

A poster will depict Jesus' face in the leftover froth of an empty beer glass, responding to the trend for seeing religious figures in everyday objects.

Intending to remind people that among all the festive celebrations and Christmas parties, there is an outlet for them to share and explore the inner feelings.

"The message is subtle but simple - where is God in all the boozing at Christmas?" says Francis Goodwin, the chairman of Can.

"For many, Christmas is just drinking and partying and God is excluded, yet many young people are interested in finding deeper meaning and exploring faith."

He adds that the poster's link to MySpace will provide individual's with a link to "discuss their feelings and debate the issues".

During its Christmas 2005 advertising campaign, Can showed Jesus in the guise of South American revolutionary Che Guevara with the slogan: "December 25th. Revolution begins".
