BT held their Christmas party season demo in their landmark tower last night. Amongst the products are services they hope will entertain the nation this Christmas are TV on demand, mobile services, baby monitors and virtual reality.
The demonstration had a Christmas party theme, with festive tunes, fake snow and mince pies. Headlining BT’s new service offerings was the BT television on demand service. Users of the service can access over 40 Freeview channels and select which extras they want to watch. The absence of a compulsory monthly subscription fee means users can fit their viewings in around their Christmas party engagements and pay only for what they watch.
A new mobile service, BT Fusion, uses Wi-Fi to route pre-paid calls over BT Total Broadband. Over 2,000 BT Openzone hotspots will back the Fusion service.
Another new product for the Christmas party season was the BT Digital Vault, an online storage system for files that is to be marketed as the place to store precious memories safely, instead of social networking sites like Facebook. Up to 20GB of storage will be available.
Other new product and services demonstrations included the BT Baby Monitor 150 with high definition sound; and a new phone, text and messaging service running with Second Life that allows messenger clients such as Google Talk to be built into users’ communications centres.
