Financial analysts are urging Britons to be responsible with their finances this Christmas season. There are several options to prepare for Christmas parties and make the holiday season more affordable.
Financial planners recommend shoppers make cutbacks in areas such as gym memberships, magazine subscriptions and expensive outings. The Christmas party season is also a time when holiday jobs are available. Consider getting a second job and encouraging your teenage children to do the same.
The Christmas party and holiday season is also a time to switch high interest rate credit cards to 0% interest offers.
Michelle Jones with Better Budgeting.com gives Christmas party saving tips. She says: “Don’t decorate. Send postcards or letters, instead of Christmas cards or invitations. If you send postcards, whether purchased or homemade, remember they require less postage than a regular card.”
Jones also recommends watching grocery stores for good deals on Christmas party food: “Many stores are offering great deals during the holidays, some are even giving away food or cash. Read the paper every week for your local deals, or if you don’t subscribe to the news paper, pick up the free ad flyers at the store and take it home so you’ll have time to look it over before shopping.”
