Alexandra Palace to remain events venue
09/10/2008

Plans by a London businessman to convert the historic Alexandra Palace events venue into a hotel complex have failed, after a High Court ruling found that the public consultation held last year was 'fatally flawed'.

It is believed that Firz Kassam is considering launching a compensation claim against the owners of the palace, and he is reported to have said that legal action against the Park Charitable Trust was in the pipeline.

Kassam intended to turn Alexandra Palace, known as 'Ally Pally', into £55 million hotel complex with a casino, ice rink and bars.

However, London corporate events organisers are happy for Alexandra Palace to remain one of the capital's more interesting and historic venues. Ally Pally is an exceptional and stunning venue for hosting a party. Located between Wood Green and Muswell Hill, it is set in 196 acres of parkland with extensive views over London.

It has a reputation of being one of the premier venues in London to host an event, be it a wedding, corporate Christmas party or private celebration. From the largest to the most intimate of events, Alexandra Palace has a range of elegant rooms and multi-purpose halls to cater for any type of celebration.

Opened in 1873, Alexandra Palace then known as "The People's Palace" was a recreational playground for the Victorians. It was destroyed after 276 days when a fire swept the dome. In 1875, a new palace was rebuilt to replace the original building and to be "available for the free use and recreation of the public forever."
