Revellers planning a new year's eve party have been warned to keep the damage to a minimum this year.
Research from Barclays found that the average claim for accidental damage caused by parties over the season is £4,293.
Claims for damage following the festive period rise by 41 per cent, the company's data reveals, with items such as TVs, computers and mirrors often bearing the brunt in the home.
However, Barclays also warns that other party-related accidents, such as wine spillages on carpet or furniture may not be covered by a home contents insurance policy - leaving the hosts to pick up the bill.
Mark Till, Marketing Director of Barclays Insurance, comments: "We all know how quickly drinks get spilled or glasswork gets broken – and the cost of replacing items or cleaning carpets or furniture can quickly add up."
Moneysupermarket.com has recently urged homeowners to ensure that they have extra home insurance cover over the Christmas period, as new gifts and gadgets make an appealing target for burglars.
