Mamma Mia!, the famous
Abba musical that has since become a blockbuster movie, is celebrating ten years in the West End this month with a special appearance from Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus causing excitement at the anniversary performance.
The audience at the 10th anniversary performance on 6th April were delighted when the two musical maestros took the stage with the three leading ladies at the end of the performance.
The musical’s writer, Catherine Johnson, and its producer, Judy Cramer, also joined the cast and the
Abba boys on stage for a bow. Cramer said, “it’s an incredibly special night tonight - the 10th anniversary of the original London production. Since we opened on April 6, 1999.” She went on to say, “London is dear to our hearts and our flagship production.”
As well as the musical smash hit’s anniversary, Benny Anderson was also celebrating 35 years since
Abba won the Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo.
The musical, based in Greece and set to the songs of
Abba, was launched at the Prince Edward Theatre in 1999 and has been at the Prince of Wales Theatre since 2004.
