The OFT today launched a campaign to make consumers aware of the safest ways to set money aside for Christmas.
Created in the wake of the collapse of the Farepak savings club, the programme will involve the Office of Far Trading working closely with community groups around the country with the aim of explaining to people the full range of options available for Christmas saving.
The collapse of the Swindon-based hamper firm last year meant the ruination of Christmas for thousands of mainly lower income people, who did not get the Xmas gifts they had worked and saved for. The victims have been told not to expect to get back more than 5p in the pound.
